About Hand Therapy

What is a CHT?

 

Designation of Certified Hand Therapy (CHT) is the highest level of specialization of upper extremity rehabilitation within the fields of physical and occupational therapy. 

 

Requirements to become a CHT:

 

Completion of a degree in either occupational or physical therapy (currently, masters degree level required for occupational therapy (MS, MOT) or a doctoral degree required for physical therapy (DOT). In addition, at least three years of work experience of which at least 4,000 hours in specialized hand and upper extremity care. Finally, successful passing of a rigorous hand certification examination.
